It’s not for the cock, it’s for the Notts Cats
Recently Late of the Pier have featured in every music publication, been rewarded every single of the week and touted by everyone as the Band of 2007 to be (all more than justified- you’ll agree if you’ve heard pretty much any of their songs) and if there’s one band who are right behind them in the journey to the bright lights, it’s Clarky Cat. Sharing dirty club stages, wavelegnths, a home city and a comunal sense of dancey fun with the afore mentioned band, Clarky Cat are definatly ones to watch.
Take “A Reason”, it’s jerky desperation and stabbing rhythms are layered in great detail while remaining deliciously lo-fi and dirty. Imagine Robert Smith getting his dance on over a demented, goggle eyed rave band. And then imagine it to be much, much better and you might have Clarky Cat.
“Sightline”, on the other hand, grins at you, cheekily but a little spookily, from a myspace page until you’re dancing like Ian Curtis on speed and grinning with a hunched back like Mr. Burns from The Simpsons. This band are just the right side of Nathan Barley and definatly the wrong side of a lot of other things.Clarky Cat have the sort of unhinged, menacing, seedy, dirty, fun and catchy sound that makes them heart racingly addictive.
The band have loads of tour dates all over the country, starting on September 21 in Leeds (see le space for other dates) and release “Sightline” on the 15th of October.
