Everyone give thanks, we are THE PHYSICS have arrived and are here to save Scottish music from the sweaty, hairy, generic grip of The Fratellis. This Glaswegian foursome is the most promising act to come out of the country since Alex Kapranos wrapped his irresistible vocal chords around ‘darts of pleasure’.
Front man Michael, who shares his name with two other members of the band, adds gloriously high pitched, forceful vocals (not dissimilar to Tom of Forward Russia) to fast paced, jerky riffs backed up by furious drumming. The band cite The Futureheads as an influence and if you imagine songs like ‘Alms’ with a more aggressive slant and you won’t fail to spot the similarities.
Although not an obvious influence the energy and raw edge of the first Franz album can be heard seeping through on tracks like first single ‘less than three’. Although I haven’t been lucky enough to catch a live show yet I imagine that the aforementioned track is a sure fire crowd pleaser as the chorus “All the keys make less than three” is a more than chant-worthy mouthful for any crowd. The track opens with blasts of drums and furious strumming which remain jerky throughout with showers of space aged synth thrown in for good measure. Although it’s never going to be a festival anthem, as a set opener it is bound to get any audience bouncing off the sweat drenched sides of a smaller stage tent.
Live videos of the band show them living up to their name with their awkward, angular dance moves likening them to of a group of physics students venturing out in their freshers week, but backed by their garage-esque guitars it really works. we are THE PHYSICS are set to support Art Brut on their biggest ever UK tour in the summer and with the number of shows behind them always on the rise they’ll certainly have no trouble giving Eddie Argos a run for his money.
we are THE PHYSICS are currently one tour with 30 Seconds To Mars and are playing the Great Escape and Dot to Dot festivals.
The double A side single ‘Fear Of Woods’ and ‘This is Vanity’ is out now.

I just checked these out, and I really, really like them. “Less than three” does sound amazing.
You can really imagine a proper messy gig watching them at dot to dot in the social! Roll on the 27th of May…

I assure you that when i arrive in Leeds in September i, as a Physics student, will do my best to dance in an awkward, angular manner during freshers week and beyond.
