It’s not for the cock, it’s for the bandwagon that’s worth jumping on.
Tonight on the journey up to rescue rooms you’d be lucky to miss the hordes of screaming under minors proudly brandishing their infamous ‘H’ tees from the matinee Hadouken! show.
This could imply that the gig for those of us old enough to drink will be lacking the enthusiasm of youth that can often make a show. When
Leeds outfit Shut Your Eyes and You’ll Burst into to Flames take to the stage this seems to be the case. Their high energy, enthusiastic performance, which shows them to be a more than worthy support act, is met with little more than a few nodding heads. In fact the only cheer is reserved for the two members of Hadouken! who join them on stage to add percussion to the closing track. New single ‘Drop the Decade’ has the feeling of a more mainstream ¡Forward
Russia! with an electro slant and, despite the audience’s reaction, shows them to have great promise.
By the time of Hadouken!’s slot tonight the room has filled considerably and the crowd’s anticipation has grown along with it’s size. The band quickly take to the stage and waste no time in launching into an aggressive, synth fuelled assault on the crowd. Tonight the sound quality is near flawless and pounding bass keeps the set together perfectly. Frontman James radiates attitude and charisma while giving a performance worthy of an older and more experienced group. There is little interaction with the audience but this only enhances the show as the crowd are never given a chance to stop. The highlight of the night comes from obvious set closer, and underground anthem, ‘That Boy, That Girl’ which whips the crowd up into a final frenzy before the band leave the stage of the final show of their first headline tour.          Â
Hadouken! are playing the Carling Weekend and are touring the UK in the Winter.
