Lykke Li-Youth Novels-EMI Sweden
The female singer/songwriter label is one that has been struggling to keep its credibility above water for the past couple of years since a group of nice, young ladies decided to drag it arse end through the press. While this circus becomes ever more pathetic other, less headline grabbing, women have been devoting their unfried senses to not wasting their talent and churning out wonderful records from Laura Marling’s ‘Alas, I cannot swim‘ to Bojrk’s ‘Volta‘ and now ‘Youth Novels’ can be added to the list. White Denim- Workout Holiday
White Denim hail from the deepest, hottest reaches of America- Austin, Texas- and create a sound which is as informed by their surroundings and heritage as Oasis were by Manchester.

Jim Noir-’All Right’ EP
In 2005 Jim Noir released his debut album ‘Tower of Love’ to a very warm critical reception. Despite this wide acclaim, the album’s most memorable moment in the ears of the English public was the appearance of single ‘My Patch’ on an advert for a well known brand of pasties. Undeterred, Noir plans to release his second album this year on My Dad Recordings and like ‘Tower Of Love’ before it, the album has been preceded by an EP.

Ok, so we’ve waved goodbye to 2007 and blogs all over the UK are getting rapidly updated due to the procrastination of students everywhere and INFTC is damned if it’s going to miss out on the action. We’ve all had our Christmas break and now we’re back with a new member and a round-up of the best, and worst, music we experienced in 2007; and anyone who even thinks of uttering the word ‘late’ gets a kick in the teeth!

Soulwax- Most of The Remixes…
The remix: an essential and integral part of new music which constantly pushes and evolves things into new directions. Or, the remix: part of the scenester faux bullshit with which if you’re not up to speed on who’s reworked the reworking of last weeks anthem you’re definitely not cool? Either way, 2007 has been partly defined by remixes of other songs and with great timing, or a great PR team, the DJ kings Soulwax release a best of collection of their remixes. But the really question is, of course, is it any good?

Curtis Whitefinger- “27” (Black Thumb Records)
Curtis Whitefinger is a Nottingham based singer-songwriter, but don’t stop reading quite yet. Unlike most solo males armed with an acoustic guitar and the capacity to pine and whine, Curtis Whitefinger deserves more than to be lumped in with many of these bland modern songwriters. While he doesn’t by any means obliterate the mould, he certainly finds space to breath and be himself within it.

Simian Mobile Disco- Attack Decay Sustain Release
Quite clearly there’s a time and a place for different music. For example, you wouldn’t drop Belle and Sebastian at a banging nightclub at 2am and similarly, you wouldn’t want Simian Mobile Disco in your bedroom or on the morning bus. Quite clearly anyone who thinks that hasn’t heard “Attack Decay Sustain Release”.

Paul Simon - Graceland
It was with amazement that a friend of mine, who is neither ignorant nor uncultured, confessed to having never heard of Paul Simon and to not being able to name a song by Simon and Garfunkel. It is to him therefore that I dedicate this entry/cultural lesson/period of enlightenment.
