Dot to Dot Festival, Nottingham 24/25 May
It’s that thing again in Nottingham when all the dirty indie/alternative clubs and venues are filled with bands and fans and everyone gets trashed whilst stumbling around trying to get in to see the next big thing. Only, it doesn’t seem quite as mental this year…perhaps because instead of just being on bank holiday Sunday, Dot to Dot has now been stretched over the whole weekend. At least it’s not raining. Yet.

Ok, so we’ve waved goodbye to 2007 and blogs all over the UK are getting rapidly updated due to the procrastination of students everywhere and INFTC is damned if it’s going to miss out on the action. We’ve all had our Christmas break and now we’re back with a new member and a round-up of the best, and worst, music we experienced in 2007; and anyone who even thinks of uttering the word ‘late’ gets a kick in the teeth!

As a music blog we get sent ALOT of music and this is the first time I’ve found something that I think is worth giving to you. That’s not to say that the rest of what we get sent is rubbish, although a fair amount is, but this is the first time we’ve got something that I think we’d cover if we’d found it somewhere else and it’s by a group who clearly have potential. Arcade Fire- “Neon Bible” Video
On October 6th, Arcade Fire revealed their new video for the song “Neon Bible”. After a week or so of letting the tension build via cryptic online messages, the video was posted on their ”beonlineb” (an anagram of Neon Bible) website. The video is simple but, to put it shortly, excellent.

The path to Radiohead’s seventh studio album has certainly not run smooth but the end is now in sight. Read the rest of this entry »

In the last three days we have received over 1300 hits. There are clearly many of you out there reading what we think about music. I’d rather you than me.

SABREPULSE
Music has for too long involved musical instruments. They are cliche now. Other art forms have evolved from their traditional media. Art is no longer just paintings and sculptures, it can be created from dustbins and syringe: elements with meaning to our lives.

Los Campesinos! “The International Tweexcore Underground”
Los Campesinos! have, over the last year or so, found a place in the hearts of many music fans despite not really doing much “band” stuff. They’ve hardly played any gigs since March and have done pretty much no promotion of themselves yet the likes of “Please Don’t Tell Me To Do The Math(s)” and “You! Me! Dancing!” are already some sort of indie underground/myspace anthems.

Recently Late of the Pier have featured in every music publication, been rewarded every single of the week and touted by everyone as the Band of 2007 to be (all more than justified- you’ll agree if you’ve heard pretty much any of their songs) and if there’s one band who are right behind them in the journey to the bright lights, it’s Clarky Cat. Sharing dirty club stages, wavelegnths, a home city and a comunal sense of dancey fun with the afore mentioned band, Clarky Cat are definatly ones to watch.

Leeds Festival 2007
Despite literally every other outdoor event this summer that included more than 10 people turning into a mud bath, Leeds this year was glorious sunshine all weekend. The whole experience was a whirlwind of drinking, food fights, throwing tents, sweat, raving and pushing away soberness throughout the weekend. In between, there was some truly great music.

When watching The Long Blondes, like I was this weekend at Leeds Festival, it is easy to focus your attention on frontwoman Kate Jackson. Yes she is energetic, yes she is dramatic, but is the really the best Long Blonde? Read the rest of this entry »
