Tubelord/Blakfish/Cuban Crimewave/My psychoanalysis @ The Bodega Social
Tubelord are a fiery ball of fury, having come, seemingly all of a sudden, out of Kingston (the one near London- let’s nip any confusion in the bud sharpish) creating jerky, unhinged- yet strangely wholesome- rock songs.
But first there’s the exciting and eclectic line up of bands on tonight’s bill to contend with before we go shooting our metaphorical load prematurely.

Leeds Festival 2008
Every year on the August bank holiday, Leeds festival rears its ugly, but ultimately fun, head from the horizon. With a mixture of different musical tribes descending on Bramham Park, a collection of in vogue bands of the year and a general atmosphere of reckless abandon, you know what to expect each year, yet it rarely disappoints.
Here’s our picks of the festival…

Rage Against the Machine @ Leeds Festival
The big one. Rage Against the Machine. It’s what we’re all here for, except those who thought seeing Babyshambles was a better idea…

Metronomy- “Night’s Out”
After what seems like an age of waiting, cathing support slots about once a week and getting excited over new remixes, the second album from Metronomy is finally here.

Kings of Leon
In these days of disposable music and ever evolving fashion, it takes a certain kind of band to steadily improve throughout their career to become stadium filling giants with their integrity still intact.

Micah P. Hinson- “Micah P. Hinson And The Red Empire Orchestra” (Full Time Hobby)
Starting with the soft, 1940s Americana style opener “Come Home Quickly, Darlin’”, Hinson continues in this vein throughout the album. With slow, wistful piano led ballads and camp fire style little ditties, this is an album with a lot of familiarity.

Ten Kens- “Ten Kens” FatCat Records
Sometimes, very occasionally, you come across something pretty much by accident which turns out to be fantastic. You wonder what you did without it and you get scared at the thought that you might not have ever crossed paths with it. It basically never happens, but with the debut album from Ten Kens, it’s fucking happened.

The Twilight Sad and Broken Records/The Bodega Social/18.06.08
It took less than three months for Scottish indie shoegazers The Twilight Sad to grace Nottingham’s Bodega Social since their last tour and this time around they’ve brought fellow Scots, Broken Records, with them. The seven piece band take to The Bodega’s tiny stage with the greatest of ease carrying a variety of instruments with them making the audience eager and wide eyed before a note is even played. Between them the band make a grand, Arcade Fire like, sound which not only expands the tiny room they’ve found themselves in tonight but also justifies the large amount of industry hype currently bubbling beneath them. Late of The Pier- Fantasy Black Channel
After first triggering the hype mongers, the A and R men and a wide cross section of the press, not to mention an army of music lovers, into a frenzy almost two years ago, the highly anticipated debut from Late Of The Pier is (nearly) with us. As a band more than content to do things by their own watch, they’ve decided to put the album out now rather than jumping to premature attention when all the blogs were first going mental about them.
